When Did We Decide Libido Was Supposed to Stay the Same?
Share
There are a lot of things we expect to change throughout our lives. Our careers evolve, our priorities shift, and our relationships grow alongside us. We don't expect to have the same energy we had in college or spend our weekends the way we did ten years ago. Change feels like a natural part of growing up.
For some reason, though, we've decided libido should be the exception.
If your sex drive isn't what it used to be, it's easy to wonder if something is wrong. Wellness culture is full of advice about getting your sex drive back, and social media has made it seem like a healthy libido should be constant. The underlying message is subtle but powerful: if your desire changes, you've lost something you need to get back.
But when did we decide that was the goal?
The Expectation Doesn't Match Reality
The truth is, libido has never existed in a vacuum. It's connected to nearly every part of your life, from your hormones and sleep to your stress levels, emotional connection, and overall health. It changes because your life changes.
Think about everything your body has adapted to over the years. Maybe you're managing a more demanding career than you once did. Maybe you've had children, started taking medication, entered a new relationship, gone through hormonal shifts, or simply found yourself carrying more mental load than you ever expected. Those experiences shape how you feel in ways that go far beyond energy or mood.
It would actually be surprising if your libido stayed exactly the same through all of it.
Somewhere along the way, we've confused consistency with health. We assume that feeling different must mean something is wrong, when often it's simply a reflection of the season of life we're in. Our bodies aren't designed to perform identically every day, they're designed to adapt.
Modern Life Isn't Exactly Helping
It's also worth asking whether the way we live today creates much room for desire in the first place.
Many of us spend our entire day in "doing mode." We answer emails, solve problems, juggle schedules, think about what's for dinner, remember birthdays, reorder toilet paper, and mentally prepare for tomorrow before today is even over. Even after work ends, our attention rarely gets a chance to rest.
Then we climb into bed expecting our minds and bodies to instantly shift into intimacy.
That's a difficult transition for anyone.
Desire isn't just about attraction. It's also about presence. When your nervous system has spent the entire day responding to deadlines, notifications, and responsibilities, it makes sense that your body may need time—and support—to feel something different. Rather than asking why your libido changed, it can be more helpful to ask what your body has been responding to all along.
Why We Made In the Mood
That's exactly why we created In the Mood.
Not because we think a supplement can magically restore your libido overnight, and NOT because we believe a changing sex drive means something is broken.
We created it because desire is about so much more than sex.
It's about feeling connected to your body instead of disconnected from it. Feeling present instead of running through tomorrow's to-do list. Feeling energized enough to have room for pleasure, intimacy, spontaneity, and the parts of life that often disappear when stress takes over.
That's why we formulated In the Mood with ingredients like maca, L-arginine, and ginseng to support libido, circulation, mood, and vitality as part of your daily routine.* Not because we think one supplement is the answer, but because we believe your body deserves the same thoughtful, everyday support as every other part of your health.
Because when you feel connected to your body, intimacy becomes one expression of that, not the only one.
