Nia Nadurata Is Learning as She Goes, and That's the Magic

Some artists arrive with a carefully mapped-out plan. Others follow instinct, curiosity, and the occasional leap into the unknown. Canadian singer-songwriter Nia Nadurata belongs firmly in the second camp, and it's exactly what makes her so compelling.

With more than 5 million streams, collaborations with artists including Russ and Preston Pablo, and a 2025 SiriusXM Black Canadian Music Award under her belt, Nia's momentum is undeniable. But spend even a few minutes talking with her, and you'll quickly realize that her greatest strength isn't found in the accolades. It's her openness. "I feel like a student of the world right now," she says.

That perspective has shaped her journey from competitive dance and soccer to musical theatre and, ultimately, music. After making the bold decision to leave university in 2021 and pursue her artistry full-time, Nia began building a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Her debut EP, Still Living With My Parents, captured the beautiful uncertainty of young adulthood with honesty, humor, and textured vocals that immediately set her apart. Yet for Nia, success has never been about following someone else's blueprint. Instead, it's about staying connected to the people and experiences that ground her.

When asked about her biggest influences, she doesn't immediately name artists. She talks about family. Raised by parents who encouraged creativity and curiosity, Nia grew up surrounded by support. From long drives to dance competitions to family members who still show up front row at her performances, she credits that foundation for giving her the confidence to keep trying new things.

"I'm surrounded by a lot of very strong women," she says. "I've always felt very supported."

That support system remains at the center of her life as her career continues to grow. Whether she's spending time with friends, staying active through dance-inspired workouts, or challenging her siblings to a soccer match, Nia finds comfort in simple routines and meaningful connections. Like many young women balancing ambitious careers and full schedules, she's learned that self-care doesn't always look the same every day.

"There's so much go, go, go," she says. "Sometimes the time by yourself is like, 'You know what? I'll be a better friend to you if I can just take a nap.'"

It's a refreshing reminder that wellness isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about knowing what you need, and giving yourself permission to honor it.

That same authenticity emerged when we asked Nia what it means to "shine from the inside." Drawing from her background in musical theatre, she shared a lesson performers learn early on: open your chest, project outward, and allow the audience to connect with you. But for Nia, the concept extends far beyond the stage.

Shining from the inside isn't about perfection. It's about connection. It's exchanging a smile with a stranger, complimenting someone's outfit, and taking a moment to notice the people around you and make them feel seen.

"I love telling somebody I like their hat," she says with a laugh. "Just seeing how excited they get because you noticed something."

That outlook also shapes her music. While every song begins as a personal story, Nia has learned that once a song is released, it takes on new meaning in the lives of the people who hear it. What starts as one memory can become someone else's soundtrack, comfort, or escape.

"I just want my music to serve as a little moment," she says. "A little three minutes of safety for someone."

It's a beautiful description of what music can do at its best: create space. Space to feel, reflect, heal, or simply breathe.

As she prepares to release new music, including her just-released single Irish Goodbye, Nia remains committed to creating from a place that feels honest and true. Inspired by real-life moments and conversations with friends, her songwriting continues to evolve alongside her experiences.
